This chocolate-filled sweet bread always graces our table at the Christmas and Easter holiday seasons. Sometimes, an almond paste filling replaces the chocolate one. It pulls inspiration from many different places, such as the Jewish babka of western Europe and Russia, the folares of southern Portugal, and even a bit from the Milanese panettone.

But regardless of holidays or religious celebrations, this coffee cake is just simply delicious served at breakfast on a weekend morning or sliced up for dessert. This recipe was great to follow. I had never made a bread like this, and it produced a wonderful dough. The consistency was just terrific. The loaves rose very nicely into two plump loaves. The final bread was lovely and sweet, yet still remained light and fluffy. Great taste and very popular with all of my friends. The combination of the chocolate and cinnamon gave the coffee cake that extra special touch.

It keeps well and can be made the day before a party. This was a straightforward description and a great introduction to yeasted dough, which can be intimidating to those not familiar with working with yeast. The recipe yields an impressive looking result, and the chocolate-cinnamon streusel is delicious. If you make this recipe, snap a photo and hashtag it LeitesCulinaria.

Easy Coffee Cake

Hi, I am Richa! Love flavor, easy, creative food?

It helps readers and helps more people find the recipe online! I love hearing from you all! Coffee cake is to die for—just in general—but I absolutely love how crispy the streusel looks while the cake inside is just so fluffy and moist-looking. I definitely have to try the oil free version too, as well as the gluten free version! Thank you for providing alternatives! Someone on Facebook was just talking about how coffee cake can complement certain flavors in coffee to make both the coffee and the coffee cake taste better. Looks like I will be making this for the weekend breakfast.

What type of vinegar do you use in this? I wonder how this would taste if I added tart apples to it? We have so many apples in our tree right now and want to use as many as I can while they are still here. It looks delicious! I have a spiced apple cake on the blog. Hi richa, the cake looks delicious. However, I am curious why there is no coffee in the cake? Where does the coffee flavor come from? Coffee Cake is a term for regular cake with a streusel, other toppings that is served in a coffee shop or served with coffee.

This looks amazing!

I am pretty sure I followed the recipe exactly. Did anyone else comment on the saltiness? Not sure what happened. Make another cake, just the bottom with lesser salt and serve the saltier cake and that cake together like a sandwich maybe and add some extra sugar icing to balance it out.

Thank you for your reply! I was cavalier this morning about my measurements, using only a teaspoon measuring spoon and eyeballing it. Thank you again! Hi Richi, Just found your website and you-tube channel! I just made this using the apple sauce instead of oil, so delicious, perfectly fluffy!

Am anxious now to try your Indian dishes and naan bread. I was in desperate need of sweets and I have been deprived for SOOO long being a recent vegan convert.

Jeanne's Sweet Coffeecake

This is the best thing I have eaten in a long time. Definitely using this for the holidays!! Did I say thank you?? I followed the directions perfectly, used coconut oil in the topping and a tiny bit of almond flavoring as suggested. Its so good. Wonderful recipe! Thank you — I made it in 9 inch cake pan. Should I keep mixing until lump free? Its there under the cake but was smaller paper that came up on the side of the batter. You can also add a bit more flour.

Sometimes the thinner batter with more moisture takes longer to mix in. Thanks for the reply! Wondering if I mixed too long? I used coconut oil in the crumble and it melted, too. Any tips there? Thank you!

Coffee Cake Banana Bread - A Latte Food

Mix the baking powder into the flour in another bowl and add in. Really simple. I added some drops of berry jam inside the cake batter as I layered it in, and added crushed pecans in the streusel. My 2-yr old helped mix powdered sugar and lemon to drizzle glaze on top. I eyeballed everything, no precise measuring, so it was a forgiving recipe. Everyone loved it, vegans and non- alike.

Thank you for a great recipe! Which is the correct amount? It depends on the flours used. Seriously great! Did the lower amount of surgar the first time making this, but next time I will probably do the larger amount, since I tend to like my coffee cake a little sweeter. I live in a high altidue and it still was fluffy, soft, and did not dip in the middle without any adjustments.

Trying to eat healthier with less refined sugar, so I used coconut sugar in the cake. I used less oil and no vegan butter only enough to hold together and threw in a rounded tablespoon of flax and a couple of tablespoons of almond flour. While most ALL baking recipes must be followed exactly, I love that there are variations and options. Like I said ….. I added chopped pears so the cake and it turned out amazing!! Thank you for this recipe! I just made this for the first time for a family dinner and it was a big hit!!

I added 3 tsp of powdered vanilla jello pudding mix, and doubled the yogurt. I also added the milk and vinegar first and gave it a minute to turn more into buttermilk. I reduced the salt a little just based on my tastes.

  8. Jello gelatin, however, is not vegan of course! Delicious recipe! I made this today without any extras and it was great but I look forward to adding some walnuts and blueberries next time. Thank you for the recipe! I will make this again and again. Served to vegans and non-vegans, delighted all and was so easy! Thank you!! Absolutely delicious as is! I made this last night.

The texture was gorgeous. Top notch cake! Thanks so much. This was so delicious the non-vegans in my house ate it right up! I was out of vanilla, so substituted coconut paste. Great recipe! Moist, and great texture combination! Great recipe. I usually opt for wheat flour but decided to rebel this time. I did add chopped pecans to the streusal for a little protein content and the nutty crunch result was very nice.

    Coffee Cake

The cake is moist, and fluffy with a great balance of flavor. Definitely one for the archives in this vegan household. We loved it! My kids finished off the whole loaf.
